Die schwedische Marke Saab geht aus dem 1937 gegründeten Unternehmen Svenska Aeroplan hervor, das sich anfänglich ausschließlich mit der Produktion von Flugzeugen für das schwedische Militär beschäftigt. Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg stellt Saab die Flugzeugproduktion jedoch ein und widmet sich neben LKWs vornehmlich der Automobilherstellung. Die ersten Prototypen von Saab begeistern bereits mit einer beeindruckenden Aerodynamik und einer komfortablen Fahrgastzelle. Seit den 1950er Jahren exportiert Saab auch in die Vereinigten Staaten und führt mit dem Sonett und dem Gran Turismo seine ersten Sportwagen auf dem Automobilmarkt ein. Das schwedische Unternehmen wird zunehmend für seine Innovationskraft im technologischen Bereich bekannt und kann sich bald weltweiter Popularität erfreuen.

Saab punktet bei den Faktoren Sicherheit und Komfort

Mit dem Modell Saab 96 führt das schwedische Unternehmen ein Auto ein, das das Publikum über 20 Jahre lang mit seiner Geräumigkeit und Leistungsstärke fasziniert und über eine halbe Millionen Mal verkauft wird. Saab erobert mit dem Modell 99 weiterhin das obere Mittelklassesegment und auch das Oberklassesegment mit der 9000er Modellreihe. 1969 fusioniert Saab mit Scania, einem LKW-Produzenten, zur Saab Scania AG.
