Bereits bei seiner Vorstellung auf der IAA 2005 erntet die Crossover-Studie Opel Antara wahre Begeisterungsstürme. Schließlich ist das SUV nicht nur ein Synonym für hohe Bodenfreiheit und großformatige Räder, sondern ebenfalls für bewusst gehaltene Abmessungen sowie robuste Schutzelemente. Als Antriebsquellen dienen drei Triebwerke, die allesamt mit vier Ventilen pro Zylinder ausgestattet und quer installiert sind. Basisaggregat ist ein 141 PS starker 2.4 Liter-Benziner. Hoch im Kurs steht bei den Käufern der Zweiliter-Common-Rail-Turbodiesel mit einer Leistung von 150 PS. Topmotorisierung ist der 224 PS starke V6-Benziner mit einem Hubraum von 3.2 Litern. Das aktive Allradsystem ist mit einer elektronisch gesteuerten elektrohydraulischen Kupplung aufgewertet und kombiniert die Vorzüge einer angetriebenen Vorderachse mit denen eines permanenten Vierradantriebs.
