Seit 2005 gibt es den BMW 523i in zweiter Generation auf dem deutschen Automobilmarkt. Schon sein Vorgänger der BMW 523i (E39) wies beeindrucke Leistungsmerkmale auf. In seiner letzten Ausführung konnte der 2,5 Liter-Reihen-Sechszylinder 125 kW / 170 PS bei 5500 U/Min. und 245 Nm bei 3500 U/Min. mobilisieren. Angeboten wurde der BMW 523i (E39) als Limousine mit Stufenheck und als Kombiversion (Touring).
Die aktuelle Version des BMW 523i der Baureihe E60 hat da schon etwas mehr zu bieten. Der seit Herbst 2007 verfügbare 2497 cm³ große Reihen-Sechszylinder mit 140 kW / 190 PS bei 6100 U/Min., leistet 240 Nm ab einer Drehzahl von 3.500 U/Min. Damit beschleunigt der BMW 523i in 8,2 Sekunden von 0-100 km/h. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei 237 km/h.
Der Benzinverbrauch in der Stadt liegt bei stolzen 10,1 Liter/100km, außerstädtisch bei 5,7 Liter/100km, was zu einem durchschnittlichen Verbrauch von 7,3 Liter/100km führt.
In der Basisversion ist der BMW 523i schon ab 39.200 Euro zu haben.
