Zweifelsohne hat sich der italienische Automobilhersteller Maserati seinen Ruf als „bedeutender Teil der Kultur von Sportwagen“ verdient. Liefen bei dem zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts gegründeten Unternehmen immer wieder Topmodelle vom Band, die bei der Automobilwelt großen Anklang fanden und finden. Vor allem seit der Jahrtausendwende findet der italienische Sportwagenhersteller zu altem Ruhm zurück – das Jahr 2008 gilt sogar als erfolgreichstes Geschäftsjahr aller Zeiten. Hierbei begeistern vor allem die Coupés die Automobilwelt. Modelle wie die Oberklasselimousine Maserati Quattroporte machen genauso die europäischen Straßen unsicher wie das erstmals 2004 präsentierte Homologationsstraßenmodell Maserati MC 12 auf Basis des Ferrari Enzo.
