Die Marke Lotus kann auf eine bewegende Geschichte zurückschauen. So wurde die britische Marke bereits an verschiedene Produzenten wie General Motors oder die malaysische Persusahaan Otomobil Nasional Bhd – die Hersteller der Marke Proton – verkauft. Zugleich hat Lotus bereits mit einer Vielzahl Automobilhersteller zusammengearbeitet, aus deren Kooperation Modelle wie der Lotus Omega in einem Team-Work mit Opel entstanden ist. Auch der französische Produzent Talbot bediente sich der Zusammenarbeit mit Lotus – Ergebnis ist die sportlichere Variante des Talbot Sunbeam, der Talbot Sunbeam Lotus 16V.

Kooperationen mit Opel und Talbot

Eng verknüpft mit der britischen Traditionsmarke sind deren Erfolge im Motorsport. Seit den 1950er Jahren gingen ausschließlich für Motorrennen konstruierte Modelle an den Start. Die Ergebnisse des „Team Lotus“ können sich wahrlich sehen lassen – mehrfach errang die Marke das oberste Treppchen der Konstrukteurswertung. Das Erfolgsrezept lautete ganz einfach ein extremer Leichtbau der Autos als auch der ständige Einsatz neuartiger Fertigungsverfahren.

Lotus und der Motorsport – eine Erfolgsgeschichte

Die Liste der Verkaufsschlager führt der Lotus-Elan an. Außerdem finden der Lotus-Cortina und der Esprit großen Anklang. Der Lotus Esprit verließ die britischen Produktionshallen bereits seit den 1970er Jahren und begeisterte die Automobilwelt in mehreren Generationen bis über die Jahrtausendwende hinaus. Die Marke Lotus ist eine Marke, die sich nicht nur in der Vergangenheit einen Namen gemacht hat, sondern bis heute die Automobilwelt mit ihren „Prachtstücken“ bereichert.
