Als die stilvollste Verkörperung des Coupés nach amerikanischer Vorstellung gilt immer noch der Ford Mustang. 1964 erstmals vorgestellt, sind wohl vor allem die ersten beiden Generationen, die Baujahre bis einschließlich 1968, der ultimative Traum des American Way of Life. Der Mustang wurde als Cabrio, Hardtop und Coupé angeboten. Den Standartantrieb übernahm zunächst ein V6-Motor mit 2,8 Liter Hubraum, der es immerhin auf 102 PS brachte. Weiterhin stand ein 4,3-Liter-V8-Motor am Anfang der Mustang-Legende. Beide Motoren wurden jedoch innerhalb eines Jahres durch hubraumstärkere und damit leistungsfähigere Motoren ersetzt. Im Laufe von 44 Jahren Bauzeit wurde der Ford Mustang mit einer Vielzahl großvolumiger Motoren bestückt. Der derzeit stärkste Serien-Mustang ist der Ford Mustang GT 500. Dieser wird von einem 5,4 Liter großen V-8-Motor, mit einer Leistung von 507 PS (372 kW) bei 6000 U/Min., angetrieben. Das Tremec-Sechsganggetriebe muss beeindruckende 651 Nm auf die Hinterräder übertragen. Bei einem Leergewicht von ca. 1,8 t liegt die Höchstgeschwindigkeit bei ca. 270 km/h. Den Sprint von 0-100 km/h erledigt der Ford Mustang GT 500 im Handumdrehen innerhalb von 5 Sekunden.

Die Pisa - Studie zeigt, das es doch noch doofe Leute geben soll! Wie kann ein Ford Mondeo mit einem Durchschnittsverbrauch von 3,2 ltr. auf 100 Km von 3.2 ltr 2161 km schaffen? Außerdem, wenn man das Fahrzeug über 500 km hätte schieben lassen, wäre ein noch geringerer Durchschnittsverbrauch möglich!
