Seit 1995 ist der Ford Galaxy im Angebot. Er war zunächst in seiner ersten Generation nahezu baugleich mit dem Volkswagen Sharan und dem Seat Alhambra und zeigte wenig eigenständige Konturen. Die zweite Generation des Ford Galaxy, die seit 2006 gefertigt wird, ist jedoch deutlich als Eigenentwicklung von Ford zu erkennen.

Die Identität des Ford Galaxy der ersten Generation mit dem Sharan ergab sich aus dem Umstand, dass diese Fahrzeuge in einem Joint-Venture von Ford und Volkswagen entstanden. Alle Fahrzeuge wurden im selben Werk in Palmela (Portugal) gebaut, an dem Ford und Volkswagen zu je 50% beteiligt waren. Aufgrund von divergierenden Interessen über die Größe eines gemeinsamen neuen Modells, verkaufte Ford seinen Anteil an der gemeinsamen Firma mit Volkswagen 1999. Selbstständig wurde von Ford ein neues Modell entwickelt, das nach dem Auslaufen des alten Ford Galaxy Modells 2006 in die Produktion ging. Auf der gleichen Plattform wie das neue Ford Galaxy Modell basiert auch der Ford S-Max, der etwas kleiner dimensioniert ist. Beide Modelle sind vom neuen „Kinetic Design“ geprägt, mit dem Ford neue Akzente setzen will.

Das Platzangebot wurde im neuen Ford Galaxy Modell erweitert, da es ca. 18 cm länger ist als das alte Modell. Das Raumangebot im Ford Galaxy ist durch die im Boden versenkbaren zweiten und dritten Sitzreihen ausgesprochen gut. Statt Schiebetüren hinten gibt es aber auch im neuen Modell nur konventionelle Drehtüren. Im Angebot war der Ford Galaxy zunächst mit einem Benzinmotor, der 107 kW erzeugt, und drei Dieselmotoren, die zwischen 85 KW und 129 kW auf die Straße bringen. Ein 2,3-Liter Benzinmotor mit 118 kW, der nur mit 6-Gang-Automatikgetriebe lieferbar ist, und ein 2,2-Liter TDCi-Dieselmotor erweiterten 2008 die angebotene Motorenpalette. Interessant für Sparfüchse ist der 2-Liter Benziner in der Flexifuel-Variante, der mit jedem Mischungsverhältnis von Benzin und Ethanol gefahren werden kann.
